What the clock includes — and what it doesn't
This measures TREC receiving your application to your license being issued: application review, exam scheduling and attempts, fingerprints and background check, and broker sponsorship if you activate immediately. It does not include your 180 hours of pre-license coursework, which happens before you can apply — self-paced students commonly spend 6–12 weeks on it.
What slows people down
- Exam retakes. Each retake adds scheduling time plus its own fee.
- Fingerprint timing. Doing fingerprints only after applying adds serial wait; they can be done early.
- Application deficiencies. A returned application restarts its review clock.
- Season. Issuance volume swings widely by month — see the chart on the homepage.
